The Receipts (thereceipts.ca) is a static website. We keep this policy short because our data practices are minimal. This policy is intended to comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25).
1. Privacy Officer
The person responsible for the protection of personal information at The Receipts is the Editor, who can be reached at tips@thereceipts.ca. This individual is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable privacy legislation and for responding to any inquiries or complaints related to the handling of personal information.
2. What We Collect
Almost nothing. This Site does not use cookies, user accounts, login systems, comment sections, analytics trackers, or advertising pixels. We do not collect, store, or process personal information through the Site itself. All fonts are self-hosted; no external font services or third-party content delivery networks are used for typography.
3. Cloudflare
This Site is served through Cloudflare, which may collect standard server logs (IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, timestamps) for security and performance purposes. Cloudflare's processing of this data is governed by Cloudflare's Privacy Policy. We do not access individual-level Cloudflare logs. Cloudflare acts as a processor of this data on our behalf; we do not use Cloudflare's advanced analytics or profiling features.
4. Email
If you contact us at tips@thereceipts.ca, we receive your email address and message content. We use this only to respond to your inquiry or to follow up on submitted tips and corrections. We do not add you to any mailing list, and we do not share your contact information with third parties.
If you submit a tip and request confidentiality, we will honour that request to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Retention: We retain email correspondence for two years from the date of last communication, unless the correspondence relates to a published article or an active editorial matter, in which case it is retained as part of our editorial record. Routine inquiries unrelated to published content are deleted after the retention period.
5. Third Parties
As of the last update to this policy, this Site does not load resources from any third-party services. All fonts, stylesheets, and scripts are served from our own domain via Cloudflare. No advertising networks, analytics services, or social media tracking pixels are used.
If we add any third-party service in the future (for example, a payment processor for donations), this policy will be updated before that service goes live.
6. Your Rights
Under PIPEDA and Quebec's Law 25, you have the right to:
Access any personal information we hold about you. Correct inaccurate personal information. Request deletion of your personal information, subject to any legal obligation we may have to retain it (for example, records related to published corrections). Withdraw consent to the processing of your personal information at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at tips@thereceipts.ca. We will respond within 30 days.
7. Children
This Site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
8. Complaints
If you are not satisfied with our handling of your personal information, you have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC). Residents of Quebec may also file a complaint with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (CAI).
9. Changes
We may update this policy if our practices change (for example, if we add a donation system or newsletter). The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. Material changes will be noted on the Site.
